How Can I Resolve Lichen Simplex Chronicus Symptoms?

Do you have an itchy patch of skin that you’ve been rubbing a lot but it’s only getting worse?  You could be suffering from lichen simplex chronicus.  Lichen simplex chronicus starts as itching on an area of the skin but other symptoms develop as it progresses.  So how can you resolve the symptoms of lichen simplex chronicus?

Symptoms Of Lichen Simplex Chronicus

Lichen simplex chronicus is a skin disorder characterized by intense itching.  The repeated itching causes the skin to become dry, thick, and leathery.   Dark patches also develop in the affected areas.  Lichen simplex chronicus can occur on any part of the body but commonly affects the vulva.

Lichen simplex chronicus can be challenging to manage because patients often find it difficult to stop scratching the area, and this causes a stressful itch-scratch cycle.

How Can I Resolve Lichen Simplex Chronicus Symptoms?

The symptoms of lichen simplex chronicus are generally treated with topical corticosteroids, which help to calm the inflammation and itch and soften the thick skin.    Healing the skin usually puts an end to the itch-scratch cycle.

Women with vulvar lichen simplex chronicus generally have sensitive genitalia skin.  Consequently, the itching associated with the condition is sometimes triggered by irritation from topically applied hygiene products.  It’s therefore important to avoid using products with chemicals that could be possible triggers.

At Fowler GYN International (FGI) they therefore include hypocontactant skin care products in their treatment protocol for women with lichen simplex chronicus.

FeminaRx Pure Skin Care Collection

FGI recommends the FeminaRx Pure Skin Care Collection.  The Collection includes astringent skin rinse for the external genitalia, nonreactive water-based vaginal lubricant for intercourse, hypocontactant soap, non-water based labial emollient for sports and exercise to prevent tissue friction, special blend shaving cream for the genital area, and soothing moisturizing skin lotion.
